Today, major changes have happened on Xbox/Microsoft side of things as “reset” continues. Xbox has said that 268 layoffs are going to happen if they haven’t already. This will be affecting most of Halo Studios, other first-party developers, and the Xbox Game Studios management and central functions team. Beyond the layoffs announced today, it has been reported that Blizzard will be next to layoff people.
Also today, Activision is going to be making the next Halo game, and it’s being made by a “new, purpose-built team.” Going forward, only a “small team” at Halo Studios will continue on “supporting the Halo community and games in-market.” I hope that Activision does something good with Halo, but do not make it another Call of Duty game. I don’t play Call of Duty games, so I hope this will be something different. Halo has been failing for years, sadly. I played Halo Infinite for a little bit, it was kind of meh for me though.
